Alive and Well! Days 1-2.

I'M ALIVE AND IN COSTA RICA! (:
I've also already decided that I'm really going to have to make an effort to take more pictures and blog.

Welp. We ended up missing just about all of our orientation. Long story short, the flight attendant wouldn't let us on our original Tuesday morning flight because he said we needed a Visa and we didn't have one-(which wasn't true). We ended up catching a flight out of DFW at 5:45am this morning, and made it here at about 11:30 local time. We are an hour behind Dallas time, and when DLT happens we will be on the same time schedule.

Anyways, we arrived with about 30 minutes left of orientation and were then introduced to our host families. Mine is quite wonderful. Prayer answered! I will talk about them more later when I'm not falling asleep. The biggest blessing is that they have a daughter named Valeria who is 20 and super helpful. I'm really thankful for her.

The rest of the evening I spent with my sweet new family playing pictionary. I sure wish I knew more spanish words! So far so good. I have a feeling I will go into culture shock soon though...! Oh, I'm also really excited to find out I have wifi at their house. So, if you have an iphone and imessage me, I will get it when I'm home.

Last thing? I can hear the rain off their roof and through the window in their bathroom. It reminds me that God is in control. I LOVE LISTENING TO IT.

Ohh. and last last thing. Philippians 4:19 held me together today.  "And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." SO good.

Tomorrow consists of touring San Jose! Pictures to come!


The picture on the left (Day 1) is my freaking sweet hotel room I got for free. It made me feel so adultish. haha. The one on the right (Day 2) is... well... land. I promise to improve at this. (:

I'm donating a kidney to celebrate recovering from an eating disorder.

I remember the first time I decided I was fat. I was sitting in theater class in 9th grade and one of my classmates told me to hold my arm out in front of my body. When I did, they hit the skin under my upper arm and laughed as they watched it jiggle. In that moment, I gained 50 pounds. That 5'3 110 pound high school freshman died, and a hypersensitive and self conscious version of myself peaked its evil head for the first time. Although that was the moment my eating disorder (which I'll call Ed) took over, it wasn't the only thing that sparked an unhealthy view of myself. Years of comparison, losing a relationship with my father, and the decision to define my worth in the words of other people, collectively lead me to believe that I was fat, unloved, and that the worldly standards of beauty defined me. How to love Jesus & gay people (at the same time).

I am not expert in the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community. I am not writing this because I think I am & I'm not writing this to convince you whether or not it's morally or biblically wrong to live that lifestyle. You're going to make your own decision-you probably already have. I don't expect to change your mind. This is for the people that profess a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and believe that his life, death and resurrection was necessary for our salvation. This is for the people that believe Jesus is the only way. This is for the christians that are condemning people to hell for their LGBT lifestyle.
